Hello Lansdowne-

Once again we've had a little bit of bad weather, and residents continue to forget to clear their sidewalks - that means all walks surrounding your property.

Its really amazing that people continue to forget their duty and responsibility as homeowners to clear the sidewalks.  Then again - I guess some homeowners just don't care if a young child slips and falls while walking to their bus stop, or slips while at the bus stop, or someone falls while out for a walk... because some lazy homeowner couldn't take a few minutes to take their lazy butt outside to do their part.

Maybe someday the HOA will start to enforce the rules with regards to homeowner responsibilities - outside of landscaping, fences, and home businesses.  No one can get hurt for the previously mentioned things - but some ice and snow has the potential to keep the ER and our local primary care docs busy.

So before you hop in your car to sit in traffic making your way east.... take :30 minutes to do your part and clean the sidewalks around your property!

Thanks for the head's up  Ozzy.

Young people of Lansdowne (aka with healthy backs and shovels in hand)

This is a $$$$ bonanza.

Put out a notice with an email and a phone number (perhaps on LL.com) - Have shovel, will work for spending money.

I'll bet you could sign up scores of Lansdowne households for a wintertime contract.....

When the streets are properly plowed, I'll be happy to shovel the sidewalk. I'm not holding my breath ...
Having the streets properly plower have no correlation to clearing the snow and ice off the sidewalk around your home.  We as homeowners are required to do so, according to the  HOA policy we signed when moving into the community.  Also failing to clean off you sidewalk, cause you to be  in violation of Loudoun county ordinance which, require property owners to ensure their sidewalks are cleared of ice and snow, making it safe for pedestrians.  Not to drone on.... you are also opening yourself up to a personal lawsuit if someone falls and injures themselves. If a  homeowners failure to properly clear off snow and ice......  An ounce of prevention......

Thanks Bob, there are many things we are required by HOA, and signed acknowledgement to do so. Lots of folks clearly don't give a hoot, and the HOA won't lift a finger unless they are notified.

Can I sue the Developer if I slip in the street while shoveling snow that the plow failed to do?

Sure...sue away we are a litigious lot....every one sues everyone..... my original post was not meant to point fingers, if anyone is personally offended, I sincerely apologize ......

Loudoun County just published their snow clearing Ordinance and a complaint form online.    $250/day fine can be levied by Loudoun County.  Interesting.......

--------

Loudoun County zoning officials are calling on residents to comply with the county ordinance that calls for snow and ice to be removed from sidewalks after a snowfall.
“Chapter 1022 of the Loudoun County Codified Ordinances requires that snow and ice be removed from sidewalks that are adjacent to publicly maintained streets,” said Keith Fairfax, Loudoun’s Zoning Enforcement Manager. The ordinance, which applies to areas outside the county’s incorporated towns, generally calls for snow and ice to be removed within six hours after a storm has ended. The ordinance calls for violators to face a fine of up to $250 a day.
Fairfax says if Loudoun residents do have a complaint, they may fill out a zoning violation form which is available online. Just go to www.loudoun.gov/servicerequests and click on “Zoning violations/questions.”

Yeah, tell this to my neighbor!
So, who's responsible for shoveling the sidewalks of the many empty houses that have been foreclosed on? It seems you can't pass 10 houses without coming across an empty one...
I would assume it is the bank or the title owner of the property...But as a community we should come together and take care of the snow removal on the vacant property in close proximity to our own homes....
When I dropped my son off at Seldens Landing Elementary school yesterday, the school hadn't shovelled their sidewalks and the kids were walking in the streets to get to the school.
Streets are not properly plowed - we have been fortunate to have missed the last snow storms only to come home to find that the plows just dumped snow in front of our driveway making it difficult to shovel once it freezes. Finally, someone should make sure that the drains are not encased in snow - this stuff eventually melts and needs a place to go - rather that refreezing on the roads>
Who take care of the property that is still controlled by the developer and/or the HOA - Coton Reserve sidewalks toward Riverside have not been shoveled since 2003!
