A summary of the meeting is being prepared and will be distributed to to the community. It may also come through the HOA's blast email list. If you don't receive messages from the HOA please register at www.lansdownehoa.com.

I am very concerned about the proposed boundary changes for both the middle & high schools. Only 2 out of 12 proposed changes have us staying at Stone Bridge. At least 1/3 of the proposed changes for the middle school, have either all or part of Lansdowne moving out of Belmont. I want to see our children stay together and close to home. I was unable to attend last night's meeting at the Potomac Club. Is there a way for me to find out the outcome of the meeting? I would like to know what what we will be doing next as a community?

For those interested, there is a Community Input meeting to discuss elementary schools - Seldens Landing, Belmont Station, Cedar Lane and Newton Lee - on FEBRUARY 5, 2009 at 6:30pm at Seldens Landing ES - Multipurpose Room

Kathryn: There is an information distribution and planning meeting scheduled for this Saturday at the Potomac Club Grand Ballroom from 4-6. Prior to the session, attendees are encouraged to visit the Planning Commission's web site to review the current boundaries and to utilize the tool provided to craft your own proposal. Hope you can attend.

I have been out of town and came back late last night and read all my emails. As a parent of 3 kids (2 at Seldens and 1 at Belmont Ridge) the boundary issue is a big one to me. I moved to Lansdowne for the schools and don't want my kids bused all over the place and also want my children to have friends at school who also live nearby so they can walk or ride bikes to each others houses as they do now. I'm sure many of you also want the same. I agree with the previous posts that Ashburn Village is already very tightly bonded, very politically connected and organized and we must be too, in order to get what we all want. I missed the previous evening working group but think that is a good start. Perhaps we could organize a larger group, meet in the Lansdowne Ball Room and find a plan that the whole community can support and then support that plan as a large group at the next board meeting. I would like my kids to stay at Seldens then Belmont and then go to the best High School around here which is Stone Bridge. Having moved several times, I know a new school with new staff, under funded sports and elective programs,a new administration, and a non existent or weak PTA is not where kids thrive best. It's very hard to also have a strong sports team when you don't even have equipment for the kids to train on, and no money in the school budget to buy it. (look at BRMS) they were looking for donations of sport equipment so they could make a weight training room. At the H.S. level the lack of equipment is worse and this applies to sports equip, science labs, technology labs, music, drama, art supplies, computers, etc.

I think there is a general misunderstanding in the neighborhood that we will all be going to Tuscarora Hign School (TSH) and that it is a done deal. According to the first middle school boundary meeting, all of Lansdowne will not fit in TSH. When I review the proposed plans for the middle school I see Lansdowne kids being sent to Harper Park which will feed into Heritage High School not TSH. I currently have 2 girls at Stone Bridge High School (SBHS). I understand the concern about your kids not being able to participate in sports/drama/etc. because of the overcrowding. On the flip side, being at a big school offers more variety in clubs and other activities for kids to get involved in. Having a school that has a great sports program is a lot of fun as a spectator (which is a huge part of the high school experience) and if your child does make the sports team it can be an unbelievable experience as well.
Both my girls drive and I am very comfortable about the routes they need to take to get to their firend's houses. I don't know that I will have the same comfort if my son is sent to THS. Look at the boundary for Smart's Mill Middle School as a projection of the boundary for TSH.
For me the most important thing is for Lansdowne to go together to Middle and High School, not which one they attend.

The plans submitted to date address only the middle school attendance. The county will not release information on the high school issues until next week so, as of right now nothing addresses the Stone Bridge versus Tuscarora issue. There are compelling arguements for both schools and your comments speak to the very concern about Stone Bridge. I hope you will attend one of the High School meetings next week and join us at the community discussion next Saturday.

You all seem very passionate. But, can you give me a reason why it would not be better to send my 2 girls to the new Tuscarora HS instead of overcrowed Stone Bridge? At least then, they might be able to join an after scholl activity!

A new batch of plans have been posted; mine is plan 510. But the capacity for Simpson is incorrectly typed - it should be 1170
